WEEK 2 RECAP

Well week 2 is in the books and with that said I hope everyone enjoyed their spring break vacations!  I just want to first of all commend the coaches on making adjustments and improving over the course of a week; great job fellas.  As for an organization, I couldn’t be happier with the sportsmanship our players and fans (that’s you parents) have shown thus far. Keep up the good work and let’s keep improving on and off the field.

1/2 Grade Gold

Coach Travis had his team firing on all cylinders as they came on strong in the first game to battle it out to a draw 6-6. There were a few plays that just barely missed in this one and it was an exciting game to watch. In the second game, the defense hunkered down and did not allow a single point. In a league geared towards scoring, a shutout is a rarity so my hats off to the 1/2nd grade gold team for the defensive showing. Not to forget about the offense who put up 12 points to get the Jr. Braves to even on the day winning 12-0. The 1st/2nd grade gold squad is tied for the fourth spot in their division and looks to keep pushing their way to the top.

3/4 Grade Gold

This squad came out to play after last week’s close games and boy were they ready to go! In their first matchup against those pesky Richland Jr. Bombers, the Braves didn’t waiver whatsoever. The defense technically had a shutout, however there was an interception thrown by the Braves which gave the Bombers 2PTS - but that was it! They went on to win convincingly 20-2. In the 2nd game it was more of the same with the Braves marching down the field on 3 drives in a row to put up 20 on a tough Hermiston Bulldog team. When the final whistle sounded, the Braves walked away with a 20-7 victory and they went 2-0 on the day. Coach Zach after the game said, “I’m proud the kids, we pitched a shutout against Richland and we played a lot tougher this week to get those two wins.” The 3/4 Grade Gold squad is moving up in the ranks jumping up into the 6th spot after last week.

3/4 Grade Red

Well the Red squad looked to keep their streak alive against the Prosser Mustangs. This was a hard-fought game that literally came down to the last play on the 2-yard line. The Braves squeaked out a close one winning 10-9 and making this the first time this group of kids have gotten the W against a well-coached Mustangs team in the spring league, so congrats kids on the big win. The kids rode that wave into the second game beating the Richland Bombers 38-0. Coach Jeff said, “It was great seeing the kids out there competing when we were in a really tough spot and they responded well to adversity.”  The Red squad sits in the top spot in the 3/4 Grade division and look to keep it going this weekend.

5/6 Grade Gold

Well after a tough week last week the 5/6 Grade squad came out looking for a W, and that’s what they got in their first game of the day. This was a back and forth battle with the Bombers coming down to a defensive stand and a late game interception to seal the win by Gavin Matthews as time expired giving the Braves the 18-16 win. In the second game, they played a really tough game against a seasoned Mustangs team.  They fell a little bit short but left it all on the field. Coach Ben said, “It was a great win for the 5/6th Braves, the kids played hard all the way to the end.”  The 5/6 grade squad are making great strides each week and I’m excited to see what they do this week.

7/8 Grade Gold

First off, I want to tip my hat off to this group. They only have eight players on the team in a fast-paced game and never skip a beat. In the first of two match-ups against Walla Walla, the Braves got the shutout 23-0 spreading the ball around and capitalizing on breakdowns in the Blue Devils’ coverage.  In the 2nd game the Braves were going score for score until the 14-12 mark when the Blue Devils pulled away at the end leaving the score at 28-12. Coach Micha said, “I am just proud of my kids today; they got a win in the first game and battled to the end in the 2nd game.”  Look for this team to be ready to go this weekend after splitting last week’s games going 1-1.

Once again thank you for your continuous support towards the kids and the Junior Braves program. We might have some nice weather this weekend so make sure to grab one of those Kona Ice treats!!! See you all this week.

GO BRAVES!!!
